Honestly, there are little things better in life, than to have a good ol’ fish n chips with beer.
Clancy’s fish pub at City Beach is undoubtedly one of our favourite places to have fish and chips. Because it’s so much more than just good fish.

Clancys at City Beach has an amazing atmosphere. When you think of City Beach, you think of white sandy beaches and surfing, and Clancys is definitely an embodiment of life at City Beach.
Walking into Clancys, we immediately see a cosy fireplace surrounded by laid back chairs and comfy cushions. It’s like a bold statement from the fish pub: Come here and chill with us.
And that’s just the first thing we see.
The place itself is pretty big. Yet, there is something so comforting and vibrant about its setting. Fish and beer specials are written on the board, and they are pretty hard to miss. As we walk in, we were greeted by a friendly staff, who immediately seats us.

Whenever we head to Clancys, there is a special area which we love to sit in. It is a table overlooking the sea, so we’d get a perfect view of the beach itself. While there are a few seats overlooking the sea, it does fill up pretty fast. Our suggestion on getting a good seat is to go early, as Clancys’ do not take bookings. We were able to get a good seat at 12pm on a weekend, but most of the nice seating spots were filled up by 12.30pm itself.

For beers, we ordered their seasonal Mismatch Mandarin Berliner Weisse which was a refreshing and light beer. It is the perfect beer if you’re craving a light beer to go with your fish.

For the fish, we ordered a beer-battered snapper and blue emperor. The fish and chips was served as it should be, with a side of chips, lemon, salad, and tartar sauce.
Our experience with Clancys’ fish and chips has always been good. The fish is extremely fresh and cooked perfectly. While some batter’s can be rather gluggy, Clancys’ batter is light and nice, with a decent portion of fish. Everything about this dish is a winner: classic, simple, and delicious.
We’d highly recommend Clancy’s Fish Pub at City Beach for our visitors at our Hillary’s homestay, which is only 20 minutes drive away. However, if you are located at our Fletcher St homestay, there is also a branch located in Canning Bridge, which is less than 20 minutes away.
