Perth is an incredible destination filled with tourists all around the world – with many staying on longer trips.
Although there are plenty of things to do in Perth itself, there is also much to explore in the surrounding regions in Western Australia. As homestay owners, we get asked a lot about the places to go when one has more time in WA.
So, without further ado, here are some of our top picks!
Lancelin

They say Lancelin is one of WA’s best-kept holiday destinations, and it’s not far from the truth! We’ve written about our adventures in Lancelin before and stand by it as one of the best places to be.
With only 85 minutes away from Perth, Lancelin is home to iconic sand dunes, blue beaches, and plenty of local restaurants and cafes. If you’re looking for an adventure, this is the place to be.
The Pinnacles
Just further up ahead of Lancelin is The Pinnacles at Nambung National Park near Cervantes. These iconic and mysterious formations are believed to be remnants of prehistoric sea shells, and its unique structures are said to be 30,000 years old!
Driving up to The Pinnacles would take around an hour and a half, but we think it’s an excellent place to go if you’re heading in that direction. It’s a photographer’s dream, especially at night.
Wave Rock
Wave Rock is one of Western Australia’s most famous natural landmarks, comprising a 15-meter rock formation that resembles a giant ocean wave. This iconic formation is another wonder in WA, with a fantastic stargazing view at night.
Visitors can also take a bush walk to see native flowers and birds. If you’re visiting in spring, Wave Rock is also host to a popular music festival each year.
Wave Rock is just under four hours of drive from Perth, but it’s worth it if you’re going south of Western Australia.
Busselton Jetty
Along the way to/from Margaret River is the town of Busselton and its famous Jetty. The town of Busselton is a popular one, especially during the end-of-the-year holidays!
The jetty itself is beautiful, extending over 1.8 kilometres over the foreshore. Visitors can choose to walk to the end of the jetty or take the jetty train, which leaves every hour.
Surrounding the jetty are also plenty of restaurants, shops, and an underwater observatory for some family fun.
Stay tuned for more things to do for longer trips in Perth! If you’re looking for accommodation for your stay, check out our homestays and send us a DM on Facebook for booking enquiries.
